Besugo was commissioned June 19, 1944 and stayed in service until she was de-commissioned  March 21, 1958. She was re-commissioned March 15, 1966 and then de-commissioned March 31, 1966 and loaned to Italy. She later returned to US Navy control and struck from the Ships Lists Nov. 15, 1975. Besugo was sold for scrap March 16, 1976.
