*Guardfish thought she was sinking a Japanese Submarine. While the target was sinking Guardfish realized her mistake and rescued all but six of the crew.

Guardfish was decommissioned and struck from the Ships Lists on June 1, 1960. Guardfish was sunk as a target by the USS Dogfish SS 350 and the USS Blenny SS 324 on October 1, 1961, 97 miles south of Block Island.
