+ The USS R1 fired one Mark 10 torpedo at a German U-boat. An explosion was heard and breaking up noises followed. There is no confirmation of a sinking in the area by German sources. Possible damage to a U-boat is most likely result of this attack.
The USS R 5 and USS R 7 both made approaches on German U-boats. The R 7 fired 4 torpedoes at one but missed. She lost the target during reloading of her tubes.
The USS R1 served the whole war on active duty. She was Decommissioned Sept., 20, 1945 and Struck Nov., 10, 1945 and scrapped March 13, 1946.USS R1 SS 78
