+ The Erimo  has conflicting information given to it. The IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) say the ship was damaged. The WIJN (Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy) say she displaced 15,450 tons and was beached on Bali and credits a British sub that never was in the far east with the sinking. JANAC does not credit the S 39 with the 15,450 ton  sinking but does credit her  with 6,500 tons. JANAC data is derived from Japanese and WIJN data which is sometimes faulty being in its own right from badly translated Allied data.

The USS S 39 was lost due to running aground on a submerged reef in the Louisiade Archipelago. All hands were saved.
