Tautog Conning Tower
The USS Tautog SS 199 conning tower fairwater with her WW II war record.
The Tautog became known as the "Terrible 'T'" because of the number of ships sunk.
You can see the airplane flag painted on the con. Tautog was credited with shooting down
a Japanese fighter bomber during the Pearl Harbor Raid on Dec 7, 1941.

     On 7 September, Tautog left San Diego and headed for San Francisco to join the Pacific Reserve Fleet.    Her orders were subsequently modified, and she got underway on 31 October, 1945 from there for the east coast.  

     An unknown sub is at the left edge of the photo and at the top of the photo most likely the last known photo of the USS S-32.   S-32 arrived Sept. 13, 1945 in San Francisco.  The S-32 was was decommissioned at Mare Island on 19 October. Her name was struck from the Navy list on 1 November 1945.

Capt652 — November 08, 2009 — In 1959, SS-199 Tautog, a Tambor class fleet submarine was sold for scrap and towed to Manistee, Michigan, USA. She was tied up along the Manistee River channel at the foot of Oak Street and opened for public tours. Later she was towed upstream to Bultema Dock and Dredge Co. and cut up for scrap. This movie is from an 8mm original.
